About me.
My name is Larneke Maria Van Zyl, a South African photographer raised in Switzerland, shaped in London, and now based in Cape Town.
My practice is rooted in movement between cultures and places. Born in George and educated in Switzerland, I grew up navigating multiple languages and visual worlds, which naturally led me toward photography as a way of observing and translating my surroundings.
I discovered the medium at eleven after hearing Jimmy Nelson speak at a TEDx conference, an encounter that later evolved into an internship and on-set experience with his team in the Netherlands. This early mentorship taught me that photography is as much about process and intention as it is about the final image.
Since then, I’ve developed a body of work that explores identity, place, and atmosphere. Alongside my BA in Photography from the University of the Arts London, I’ve collaborated with brands, produced social-media-led campaigns, photographed fashion and events, and worked within creative studios experiences that have refined both my visual language and the way I build narratives.
Now based in Cape Town, my work continues to evolve as I explore new environments, perspectives, and ways of seeing.
